Welcome to the Crochet Simple Square Hot Pad pattern. This is one of my favorite quick, beginner-friendly patterns. I made this pattern when I first started crocheting and have used it over and over through the years. It’s lasts forever and looks great and also makes a great gift. I like to use ombre yarn for this pattern but it also looks great in a solid yarn.

Materials:
- H/5.0 mm Hook, I love my Clover Amours
- Worsted Weight #4 yarn
- Scissors, I love my Clover Patchwork
- Tapestry Needle, I love my Clover set
Yards/Ounces:
- 2.0 oz/58 g or 96 y/88 m. I used Yarnspirations Lily Sugar’N Cream
Skill Level:
Beginner
Size:
One Size
Gauge:
4 x 4 inches = 13 hdc x 11 rows of hdc
Dimensions:
Width of the bottom is 10 inch and the height is 4.5 inches.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochetsl
st = slip stitch
Notes:
- Ch 1 doesn’t count as a stitch.
- 100% Cotton yarn is best.
- You can make a single square and use it as a washcloth.
Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 26, hdc in 2nd stitch from hook, hdc in each stitch across. Turn work. (25 hdc)
Row 2 – 19: Ch 1, hdc in each stitch. Turn work. (25 hdc)
Fasten off a tail to sew in.
Make 2 squares. On the 2nd square don’t fasten off. Place 2 squares together and starting in corner 2sc through both pieces. *Sc through both pieces evenly downside, sc 4 in the corner.* Repeat until 1st corner, 2sc and sl st to 1st sc.
Fasten off a tail to sew in.
